Introducing Carol Hautot

Hi 

I've been working in Cairns as a business coach with Action since October 2006 and I am amazed at the FANTASTIC results I am getting with my clients.  Miracles seem to be happening all around me at the moment.  Clients doubling their profits, getting exactly the right contracts offered to them without any marketing, finding the right  new recruit without any advertising.  Of course they seem like miracles but put in perspective, it is a logial outcome to the work we have done together in the previous months.  Coaching is a process - a process of business education that allows the business owner to gain confidence and make great decisions - decisions that lead to phenomenal results.

I am passionate about the discipline of coaching so I'd like to explain a little bit about what I do and how I got into this role.  

I have a background in Hospitality Management and have worked with many 5 star hotels around Australia; The Regent of Melbourne, The Windsor, The Perisher Valley Hotel, The Sheraton Ayers Rock, and Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas to name a few.  If you know the Hospitality Industy you will know it is all about offering great service; consistent, friendly and professional.  So, a large chunk of my career has been spent training and developing staff and putting systems in place so that staff are able to do their job accurately and efficiently every time.  I have written a number of training manuals and conducted a variety of quality assurance programs to ensure excellent service.  Of course to manage large deparments I also needed to know how to manage large budgets and keep a very tight reign on costs.

In 1995 I started working as a vocational trainer for TAFE and other independant training providers.  I love the energy created in a training room and always used accelerated learning techniques to appeal to different learning styles.  Soon, I was living up on the Tablelands married, with one child all ready to make our mud brick house and start a permaculture garden when my husband became retrenched from CSIRO.  We decided to take the opportunity to travel and we moved to Christmas Island (tiny dot in the Indian Ocean just below Indonesia).  We lived there for five years and WOH! What an experience it was for me.  I continued to work as a vocational trainer but I also got the opportunity to start a Neighbourhood Centre, Volunteer Resource Centre, Theatre Company and Youth Video Company.  I became the island expert on writing grants and was involved in many exciting community projects.  At the same time I decided to undertake a Masters Degree in Professional Education and Training by correspondance.  This allowed me to explore the differences in learning styles faced by people from different cultures.  I gained a greater appreciation of cultural diversity and how individual we all are.  I also recognised my frustration as a trainer because so often I see people motivated in my training but not go on to implement the new strategies that they'd learnt.

My marriage break down pushed me to challenge a lot of my past behaviour and I started out on a huge personal learning curve that took me to Perth and Landmark Education (amongst other things).  It was during a Landmark Program that I had a coach for the first time - and woh!!  I was blown away by how powerful that experience was.  I then went on to be a coach on the Self Expression and Leadership Program and my destiny was sealed.  I fell in love with this awesome process where I got to be at the source of other people's breakthroughs.  Being a coach meant being an absolute stand for that persons success, believing in them, even when they'd stopped believing in themselves - pushing them over the edge so they reaped the rewards and got to know themselves as the BRILLIANT human beings they really are.

I am also passionate about writing (although still have training wheels on I admit) - and have written a few plays and short stories.  I recently visited Pat Morrish in the ABC Far North Studio to record one of my short stories from our 'Tropical Writers' 2007 anthology 'Mangoes on Fire'.
